RED SCREES- WAINWRIGHT COLLECTION
A Wainwright is the summit of what Alfred Wainwright (1907-1991) thought were true Cumbrian fell tops. There are a total of 214 ‘Wainwrights’ which have over the years become a very popular pastime for all the many Wainwright Baggers.
Red Screes at 776m is situated between the villages of Patterdale and Ambleside. It may be considered an outlier of the Fairfield group in the Eastern Fells, but it is separated from its neighbours by some low cols. The summit is marked by a Trig point and a small tarn and magnificent views over Windermere are visible on a clear day.
