HIGH STREET-WAINWRIGHT COLLECTION

PLEASE SELECT

A Wainwright is the summit of what Alfred Wainwright (1907-1991) thought were true Cumbrian fell tops. There are a total of 214 ‘Wainwrights’ which have over the years become a very popular pastime for all the many Wainwright Baggers.

High Street at 828 meters with its summit being the highest point in the far eastern part of the National Park is named after the 2000 year old Roman road which runs over the summit to link the Roman Empires forts at Broughton near Penrith and Ambleside. The views from its level plateau are well worth the reward stretching from the Pennines in the east to the arc of the Lakeland fells filling the western horizon with the  Helvellyn range and Southern Fells are particularly striking.
