Half Dome is a remarkable shaped granite dome topped mountain at the eastern end of the Yosemite Valley in the Yosemite National Park, California , United States. On one side there is a sheer rock face which is flanked on either side by three smooth sided round faces which give it the appearance of a dome cut in half. Climbing Half Dome is so popular that climbers require a permit to make the ascent. Despite the popularity of this hike, it is not suitable for novice or unfit hikers. Permits to hike to the top of Half Dome are distributed via a lottery system. If your bid for a permit is successful, you will be notified in early April. A maximum of 300 hikers will be allowed on the Half Dome ascent assist cables per day. There are however a limited number of first-come, first-served permits available daily.
