A Wainwright is the summit of what Alfred Wainwright (1907-1991) thought were true Cumbrian fell tops. There are a total of 214 ‘Wainwrights’ which have over the years become a very popular pastime for all the many Wainwright Baggers.
Great Gable at 899M lies at the very heart of the English Lake District appearing as a pyramid shape when viewed from Wasdale but from most other directions appears as a dome. Many seasoned walkers consider Great Gable as one of the best mountains and is possibly the most painted and photographed of all the Lake District mountains.
