BLENCATHRA
Blencathra at 868 meters is one of the most northerly hills in the English Lake District. It is also known as Saddleback and has six separate fell tops of which the highest is the Hallsfell.
It is one of the Lake District’s most famous and dramatic mountains and once described by the famous Lake Land Fells author Alfred Wainwright ‘one of the grandest objects in Lakeland’ and unlike his description of other mountains chose to write 36 pages on Blencathra more than he wrote on any other fell, and included 12 different routes of ascent.
