NEWS:- SNOWDONIA FOR SCIENCE FUNDRAISING 2021
Summit Junkie is once again proud to support the Snowdonia for Science annual fundraising challenge for all ages and abilities scheduled for Saturday 19th June 2021 at Llanberis, North Wales.
The event organised by Prostate Cancer Research (PCR) has raised well over £1m for the charity since 2005. The fundraising event was founded by Matt Rannamets, who after being told he had an aggressive form a prostate cancer, chose to ignore his Doctors advice to get his affairs in order but instead chose to put his faith in pioneering treatment and decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise £9000 for Prostate Cancer Research.
After his initial fundraising success, Matt thought that if one person could raise funds by climbing a mountain, then how much more could be raised if a few hundred climbed a mountain for the charity. What followed is history and having come up with the idea Matt along with some of his work colleagues and family set up and organised the event each year. Matt sadly passed away in 2016 after his long and courageous fight against the illness, but his legacy lives on and the event is very much alive today continuing to raise much needed funds for PCR each year. Nowadays the event is organised by the PCR and along with the help of the original volunteers and Matts family members, the event continues to grow from strength to strength each year.
